The NBA MVP Race: Who Deserves the Prestigious Title?

The NBA MVP Race: Who Deserves the Prestigious Title?

Uhhhh………one game in. Seriously, no definitive answer has much chance of accuracy. It’s between the following:

Front Runners: Doncic, Embiid, and Giannis

Giannis already has two [MVP awards] so I’d bet on the first two: Doncic and Embiid. Giannis’ two previous MVPs almost guarantee him a third one this season.

Outliers: Morant, Tatum, Zion

Morant, Tatum, and Zion will want to give it to Zion very badly. However, I believe Doncic and Embiid are the frontrunners for now. Despite their strong performances, it’s hard to imagine them getting it for a third straight year.

You Can Never Count Out Westbrook

Russell Westbrook has been amazing. He deserves the title. His impact on the game and his performance are outstanding, displaying incredible work ethic and talent. However, it’s too early to say which player will claim the MVP title as it stands.

Nikola Jokic: So Far, the Clear Cut Winner

Nikola Jokic is the clear cut winner so far. However, if Stephen Curry can get his Warriors into the second round, Jokic will face a strong challenge. LeBron wasn’t in the running due to too many missed games.

My Personal Vote Goes to Stephen Curry

From a personal standpoint, I will vote for Stephen Curry. Why? Look at the importance of Curry's play to the Warriors' victory. Observe the opponents’ double-teaming tactics against him. It is obvious who is the MVP.

Stephen Curry's Recent Performance

Let's dive into some of Curry's impressive performances:

In February 2021, Curry played 13 games for the Warriors, averaging 33.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. Among them, he made 73 three-pointers and had 172 shots from beyond the arc with a high of 20 in a single game. Curry hit 11 three-pointers in a single game, coming in at a 42.4% overall shooting rate. This was his second time hitting 11 three-pointers in a single game that month. On April 20, 2021, in a game against the 76ers, Warriors guard Stephen Curry played exceptionally well. He made 14 of 28 shots, 10 of 17 three-pointers, and 49 points from the free-throw line, securing 3 rebounds and 5 assists over the course of 37 minutes. This is the fifth time Curry scored 40 in a single game since April, surpassing Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant to become the player over 33 years old with the most 40-game months in NBA history. Curry has also scored 30 points in 11 consecutive games, surpassing Kobe Bryant to become the longest consecutive 30-scoring record among athletes over 33 years old.

Stephen Curry's performance in these statistics clearly demonstrates his incredible ability and dedication to the game. His contributions to the Warriors' success cannot be understated, making him a strong contender for the MVP.
